About Us
Many college students today are navigating loneliness, distraction, and uncertainty about who they are becoming.
The Outpost offers something different: A place of consistency, relationship, and purpose.
Here, students are known, supported, and challenged to grow into healthy adults with a grounded faith and a clear sense of direction.
Through residential community living, Wednesday night house church, discipleship groups, and recreational gatherings, The Outpost creates space for both resident and non-resident students to explore and grow in their faith in Jesus.
Values
Relationships
There are no shortcuts to building meaningful connection. That’s why The Outpost prioritizes time, consistency, and shared life as students grow in relationship with:
-
God
-
Others
-
Self
Growth
We believe our greatest success is seeing students become healthy adults. We recognize that healthy growth is formed over time through the practices we put in place, so we focus our efforts in three key areas:
-
Spiritual
-
Emotional
-
Relational
Play
We believe play is a universal language that brings people together. Laughter has a way of lightening the load and reminding us of the joy found in shared life. That’s why we make space for play in three areas:
-
Around the Table
-
On the Court
-
In the World
Open Doors
We believe accessibility is the key to experiencing the full life offered by Jesus. We will anticipate the goodness of God as we open doors to our:
-
Hearts
-
Minds
-
Lives
Our Story
The Outpost is the fulfillment of a dream first planted in our hearts over thirty years ago, seasoned by our decades of experience in pastoring, education, and city leadership. Through both the normal pressures of life and a ten-year season of intense personal hardship, that dream faded into a distant memory. Then, in 2019, Jesus began to restore our hearts and reinstate our dream long since forgotten. Our dream came to life again! The dream of a New Testament discipleship community. That dream is our life's work. In the fall of 2022, we began to minister to college students, quickly growing our small home gathering from twelve students to over sixty. This rapid growth revealed a desperate need for "life-on-life" discipleship, where students don't just attend a meeting, but share a home and a life together. Today, we are stepping out in faith to establish a permanent residence where 20–24 students can live, grow, and be mentored in a dedicated spiritual community. And not only the residents, but all students needing a community where they are known can find a safe place to discover their life in God at The Outpost. We believe every student who walks through our doors is a young person who matters and is deeply loved by God, and we are committed to leaving a legacy of faith for the next generation at UTSA.
